Receipt Hog App Review - Get Paid For Your Receipts!

Receipt Hog App Review - Get Paid For Your Receipts!
What do you do with your receipts? Immediately ball them up and toss them out, stash them in your purse, or neatly file them? Believe it or not, those receipts can actually get you some extra cash. So, before you crumple/toss/file them, let me tell you about Receipt Hog.

Receipt Hog is an app where you can earn coins just for snapping pictures of your receipts. Whenever you take a picture of your receipt, you get coins based on the type of retailer and purchase amount. When you get enough coins you can redeem for Amazon gift cards or Paypal.

How Does Receipt Hog Work?

Receipt Hog uses the pictures you take of your receipts for market research. Is Receipt Hog safe to use? They aren't out to get your personal information. The information from your receipts is made anonymous and aggregated in order to give companies insight on consumer purchasing trends. To provide a little more information about where the receipts go, Receipt Hog's website states:
"Your receipt data along with the answers you provide to optional surveys is made anonymous and summarized in market research reports that brands purchase. These companies pay for information such as, "Families in the Phoenix area are 20% more likely than the rest of the United States to shop for laundry detergent at a supercenter than a traditional grocery store."You can always rest assured that all research data is anonymous."

How to Use Receipt Hog

When you are ready to submit a receipt, just click the camera button on the bottom bar and take the picture. It does allow you to take multiple pictures if you have a long receipt. Make sure to include the Store name, date, and time. You can use a receipt from pretty much any grocery store and most retailers.

The app provides this list of accepted stores:

Supercenters

Pet supply stores
Toy stores
Drug stores
Beauty stores
Health stores

So, you have quite a bit of variety in receipts that you can use. Fast food and restaurants aren't accepted, unfortunately. The receipt must also not be older than 14 days. Which is still nice because when you first sign up you can go digging for recent receipts and get a nice head start!

Update: Receipt Hog now accepts fast food and restaurant receipts. They don't award coins, but they do give you an entry to the monthly sweepstakes where you can win up to 5,000 coins!

Receipt Hog - Hog slots
Receipts from clothing, office supply, electronics, home improvement, books, and sporting goods stores. award Hog Slot spins instead of coins.

For some added excitement and incentive for submitting, there are also levels and challenges. Your level increases as you complete challenges and submit receipts.

There are also bonus Hog Slot spins and coins awarded when you level up. It is fun to do, and I look forward to spinning the slots. I've won a few coins so far from the slots, but nothing really notable. If any of you win big, I'd love to hear about it! :)

Is Receipt Hog Worth Using?

Yep! I used to just let my receipts pile up in my purse, and they would literally stay in there until I got a new purse. I still have old purses in my closet filled with receipts and it makes me wish I had known about Receipt Hog a lot sooner. But now, I am excited when I get a receipt because that means extra cash for me!

I would definitely recommend trying out Receipt Hog because it is a very low effort way to get some extra cash. You won't get a ton of money for doing it (usually about $0.03-0.10 per receipt) but over time it adds up and really helps you get a little more value out of your purchases. It's also pretty fun!

I always welcome any comments/questions/feedback so let me know what you think! :)
